In a costly health care environment in which the law requires everyone to have insurance coverage, it is economically and politically vital that small employers and their employees have equal access to the choices and affordable pricing enjoyed by those who work for big business and big government. Additionally, in order to change the health care system and to lower costs, market power must be shifted from the provider to the consumer.
RAMHIC seeks to benefit our retail sector members by: 1. Giving them a seat at the table with the health care industry, 2. Making them better educated and healthier consumers of health care services, 3. While giving them more choices at increasingly better pricing. Moreover, RAMHIC seeks to benefit all small businesses by forcing innovation and more competition in the merged non-group/small group marketplace.
RAMHIC’s vision is to offer to our member employers multiple insurer options. The employers choose the insurer and allow their employees to choose from a menu of options from the chosen insurer. Defined contribution plans have long been available to large employers, but not small business. The employer simply picks a monthly dollar contribution, and the employees choose what type of coverage works best for them—from low cost limited networks, to standard HMO products, to PPO’s in which the patient can go to any doctor and any hospital. Within each option are a variety of deductible levels, and the tax benefiting and cost saving options of flexible spending accounts, and health reimbursement arrangements.
